Parents FAQ's

Must campers wear a camp T-shirt every day?

No, we do not require that all campers wear a Camp Gan Israel T-shirt each day. Campers and staff are required to wear camp T-shirts while on field trips. Since all camp staff and campers wear camp shirts on trips, we are instantly recognizable to each other and staff members are able to distinguish our campers and staff from other visitors. Each camper should purchase at least one, but preferably two T-shirts before camp begins.

How does my camper find a lost item?
Please mark all belongings with your camper's name and group. This is very important since shirts, backpacks, etc. are identical and individual items are difficult to identify without a label. Lost & Found items are available each day in the large LOST & FOUND bin located in the camp office. Parents or campers can stop in the office to search for lost items at the beginning and the end of the camp day.  Please contact us in writing or by phone regarding specific lost items.

How do I arrange to pick up my camper during the camp day?
If you have to pick up your camper during the day, please notify our office or director BEFORE camp starts. Once we are aware of your arrival time, we can arrange to have your camper ready for you. Please note that no camper will be released to ANYONE other than a parent without written permission.

What if my child does not want to participate in a particular activity?

No camper will be forced to participate in any activity. However, we do urge campers to try all activities and take advantage of the complete program offered at Camp Gan Israel.

How religious is Camp Gan Israel?
CGI is a totally non-judgmental environment made up of campers from all Jewish backgrounds. An individual's level of observance is not stressed. All children enjoy a shared Jewish spirit through songs and projects.

Can my camper bring a precious item to camp?
We do not permit your camper to bring jewelry, radios, expensive toys, etc. to camp. Camp Gan Israel supplies everything campers may need for a fun filled day.

What does my camper need to bring each day?
Campers should bring a hat with a visor as well as sunscreen & a canteen or water bottle every day.  In addition, on swim days campers need a bathing suit and towel regardless of the weather. We supply all sports and safety equipment such as tennis racquets, baseball mitts, riding helmets, etc.  In addition, campers must wear camp T-shirts whenever there is a trip.

How often does my child drink water at camp each day?
Every camper will be instructed to bring a water bottle. It is the camper's responsibility to bring the bottle each day filled with water. Campers will be instructed & given time to drink every hour and any camper without a water bottle will certainly drink from the water fountain or sink.  Bottles will be refilled as needed throughout the day.

How can I speak with my child's counselor?
A call to the camp office will answer most questions. Since counselors are constantly supervising groups and activities, messages for particular counselors will be taken at the camp office and given over at the end of the day. Please leave your name and evening phone number and  the counselor will return your call that night.

How can I speak with a Camp Director?
The camp director is available to answer your questions and discuss your concerns, during the day at the Camp Office and most evenings from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on her cell. Please feel free to call during these times or leave a message at the camp office during the camp day.

Are we obligated to give a tip or gift to our child's counselor?
Tips or gifts are appreciated. If you wish to do so, here is a general guideline: $20-$25 for a junior counselor and $30-$40 for a counselor for a full summer.

How can I become more involved with Camp Gan Israel?
The camp encourages the involvement of "bunk mothers" (just like a class mother). If you are interested please inform our director, Mushky Adler.

For more information or questions please call Mushky at 727-789-0408 Or 248-305-0462.
